From Paper to Practice - Mine Site Emergency Management Plans "EMP's"

Writer: Bart du PlessisBart du Plessis

🚨 The best emergency response doesn’t start when things go wrong - it starts long before that, with a solid plan.

99% of our job is being prepared for the 1% - because when an incident happens, the cost of being unprepared is always higher than the cost of being ready.

Every site has an Emergency Management Plan (EMP) and Rescue Plans used on their mine site, but how many are truly practical, tested, and understood by the people who need them most?

Common Gaps We See:

🚧 Plan templates with details from unrelated sites

⚠️ Missing specific risk assessment for emergency response on site

⚠️ Lack of scenario-based drills.

A well-prepared site isn’t just about having a plan - it’s about having a team that knows how to execute it.

That means:

✅ Site-specific, practical rescue plans.

✅ Regular drills that expose weak points before a real emergency does.

✅ Clear roles, responsibilities, and communication frameworks.

A clock engulfed in flames, symbolizing the urgency of emergency preparedness and the high cost of being unprepared when every second counts
